Moray Mavericks is the new relaunch of basketball and the club in the area, but the club has a very successful history as the Elgin Eagles.
The Eagles was established in 2008 and has been the driving force for developing basketball in Moray since then, and in that time was guided and supported by a large number of people: Andy Donegan, Stewart Gordon, Kim Patterson, Graham Stewart, Chris Lowen, Andrew Macdonald, Mark Burnet, Jamie Alexander, Emma O’Reilly, David McArdle Stuart McQuaker and Matt Moeller are all people who deserve a special mention.
During the last 12 years we have had lots of different sessions running for a variety of teams. This has included a ladies team, men’s team and U18’s, U16’s, U14’s and U12’s. The club also tasted success in winning the Grampian League and the Grampian cup. As well as also having teams in the finals of the Henderson Shield, Claymore cup and the Eagles Cup.
For over ten years now the club has been supporting and driving basketball in the area. Unfortunately due to a number of coaches moving on our session offerings had dwindled and with the enforced Covid break, it gave the new committee and members a chance to reflect on where we were at as a club and were we wanted to be.
